Every face in the court turns towards him.
Imagine the royal assembly of Mithila: kings seated in splendour, attendants watching from the edges, a challenge hanging over the gathering. Before them stands Ram, composed beneath the weight of so many expectations.
The story of Shiva’s bow has brought this court together. Now its next chapter rests with a prince who has no need to announce his strength.
In Myraasa’s “Shri Ram in Janak’s Sabha,” the assembly unfolds across a richly detailed Madhubani scene. Seated figures frame the standing central presence; a patterned floor leads the eye into a court glowing with orange, red, green, and yellow.
Small gestures carry the drama. A hand extends. A witness leans into the moment. Across the composition, faces seem to follow the same unfolding event.
The painting holds the charged atmosphere of a story on the brink of change, when a crowded room becomes utterly attentive.
For now, the court watches. Soon, Mithila will have a new story to tell.
