The first note rises through the branches before anyone sees him.
Imagine a path through Vrindavan, warm with afternoon light. Two gopis pause beneath a flowering tree, listening. Above them, Krishna rests among the branches, his flute at his lips, as though the tree itself has learned to sing.
The melody drifts past leaves and open flowers. A conversation is forgotten. A journey can wait. For these few moments, there is only the pleasure of listening together.
In Myraasa’s “Krishna’s Melody Beneath The Tree,” a sweeping brown trunk carries the eye upwards to magnificent red and orange blossoms. Krishna’s vivid blue face shines beneath an elaborate crown, while the figures below turn towards his music. Fine Madhubani lines fill the leaves, garments, and borders with a rhythm of their own.
Look long enough, and the tall composition begins to feel like a melody travelling from earth to sky.
The path will still be there when the song is over.
