The tree has heard this laughter before.
Imagine the gopis gathering in its shade, bringing news from home, half-finished stories, and thoughts of Krishna. One begins a tale; another interrupts with a knowing smile. Above them, the branches are busy with birds.
For a while, no one keeps track of the afternoon.
In Myraasa’s ““Gopis” Beneath the Tree of Life,” four figures gather at the foot of a magnificent branching tree. Green leaves and crimson flowers fill the canopy, where patterned birds appear among the boughs. Two face one another near the centre, echoing the companionship below.
The Madhubani composition rewards a wandering eye: from vivid veils and expressive gestures to delicate feathers and the strong dark trunk that connects the scene.
It is a portrait of friendship with room for devotion, conversation, and the simple pleasure of returning to a familiar place.
Eventually, someone will rise to leave. First, there is one more story.
